Non-profit Sudbury Women’s Centre strives to raise $3,000 with virtual trick-or-treat campaign as a means of helping local women

The Sudbury Women’s Centre has launched a virtual Triple Your Treat campaign with a goal of raising $3,000 for local women.

Although Halloween is all about scaring people for fun, there’s nothing enjoyable about the real-life fear women face when they’ve been impacted by violence and/or difficult life circumstances, said a press release.

“There is nothing scarier than the unknown,” executive director Giulia Carpenter said in a media release.

“Our clients have experienced the fear of uncertainty more than ever this year, and it is our mission to give them access to the basic items, resources and tools to put an end to that uncertainty.”

Online donations can be made by clicking here, and donations can make three times the impact, hence the Triple Your Treat campaign name.

In their media release, it’s clarified this means the pledges provide for practical essential items as well as offer encouragement and emotional support.

“Contributions received by our generous community make a much bigger impact than you might think this spooky season,” Carpenter said. “Not only do we provide grocery gift cards to feed women and their children, we help to nourish bodies and souls. Along with basic needs items, we create opportunities to present their best selves, encouraging confidence and hope.”

The Sudbury Women’s Centre is a non-profit charitable organization dedicated to providing information, referral and support services to women who have been impacted by violence and/or difficult life circumstances.

In the last fiscal year, the shelter saw more than 2,660 women come through their doors, they served more than 547 clients, performed 260 intakes, provided virtual programming and provided virtual peer support.
